Darth Vader ANH with removable blade Force FX Lightsaber (2010)
First Impression:
The saber is very detailed and does not differ from the former FX-versions of Hasbro optically.
Handling:
By means of the emitter’s shape and the attached screws the saber does not fit the hand very well and lots of tricks cannot be fulfilled without difficulty. The sharp-edged clamp plays its part in here as well. After all, the saber is well-balanced and sufficient for limited use in show combatting.
Light und Sound:
Like all other sith-sabers the blade glows in a nice crimson. The feature distinguishing this model from its forerunners is the removable blade. With a removed blade one can attach a small element into the black emitter-covering that represents the plate of the blade-emitter and makes the lightsaber seem far more authentic and convincing. With the sound, Hasbro has thought of something entirely new: Instead of only one clashsound the new board possesses totally new moving- and clashsounds. The “energy-humming” of the blade has been adapted to this new scheme as well. The sounds are more intensive, louder and even closer to the original than all other forerunners. When switching on the saber without a blade, one gets another sound that shall express a defect lightsaber. Those owning one of the former models surely will be pleased with this new features.
Abrasion:
The black lacquering of the clamp is quite delicate and can wear out in some parts because of frequent use. However this saber does not have any more abrasion worth mentioning.
Conclusion:
Obviously this saber represents the dark side of the force. Even if it is not suitable for show combatting, it clearly convinces with its new technique and the new features. No matter whether it is for your display case or an addition to the costume: This lightsaber always makes a good impression.
Resulting Mark: 6/10
